An update of sorts...

I posted a while back, about the little prince needing a hair cut (or several hairs cut)! In the end, I couldn't part with the curls just yet, so we just trimmed up the bangs. My mom cut them, and we got it on video. Pretty comical to say the least. He was NOT impressed with having his hair cut, and thank goodness we let him hold his football or all hell may have broken loose. I think he was more upset about having to sit still and not throw his ball, than he was about having the hair chopped. The curls will be saying goodbye in July, just before our beach trip. UGH.. how can he not have curly locks at the beach!?! OK, may have just talked myself out of that idea.

In other news, he's ready to be potty trained... Well, let's rephrase that, he's ready but not willing! He comes and tells me when he has pooped or peed. He says, Mommy, diapah change! He is so not interested in the potty, except when Maegan is on it. And then, it's just to torment her because he know she likes "privacy please"... so it's fun to make her mad. (oh the joys of sibling rivalry) If we ask him if he'd like to go potty he says, "YES!" and runs to the bathroom, but as soon as we go to help him get his pants down, he careens out of the bathroom at top speed screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" One day... one day... I'm not going to push it. He'll be ready before college. (I hope.)

Then there is Mia. Oh little precious one. My sweet baby girl got her very first tooth! And she is the first of my children to get just ONE tooth! Both Maegan and Wils cut two teeth at a time until all of their teeth were in. She has a bottom right front tooth. Once that little tooth pushed through, Miss Mia started sleeping through the night (well, let's say, she will sleep 7 hours in a row again... and for me, that's a full night of sleep!)... She also had a well baby check up this week. Mia, my biggest baby at birth... is my SMALLEST baby at 6 months! Wils and Maegan were both a good 18 lbs at 6 months. Granted, Wils didn't gain any weight from 6-9 months and only gained a pound by 12 months. Mia hasn't even hit the 17 lbs. mark yet! She's got a killer set of chunkified thighs though! She's 25 1/4 inches tall, which is right slam in the middle of the charts, so no complaints out of me for that, considering her brother has never been over the 25% on the charts for height, that would be why he's known as our wee little man. Other than that, Precious one is right on target for goals and is living life to the fullest.

And now we come to my princess. Or shall I call her, Miss Attitude? We are working very hard on changing her quite too grown up attitude. She has decided that she can speak to adults anyway she wants, and that most certainly is NOT OK. So, we are working on respect and obedience, doing the right thing, and using manners. She's always been so good about using her manners, so this change has really caught us off guard. I want my precious Maegie back... the one who is so polite and sweet. I think she learned a lot of not so nice things from the girls in ballet and pre-K this year. I witnessed some bullying in ballet, and Maegan, it seems, has adopted this towards her brother and her cousin and even her Aunt! It is NOT OK, and we as her parents are not allowing her to believe it is OK to treat others in such a nasty way. We've had to reduce some time spent with another friend, because our parenting skills are very different and her child is allowed to do things that I won't tolerate out of my children. Respecting everyone is very important to me, and so is turning the other cheek. I will not permit Maegan to be mean just because someone has been mean to her. I'm trying very hard to teach, that you can be nice, and still not let people walk all over you. So, until she's firmly grounded in this philosophy, I will keep a tight reign on her play dates.

In other Maegan news... she's beginning to learn to read. AND, I want to give a big load of credit to the television show, Super Why! She loves that show and is really beginning to learn how to put words together and sound them out. She has known all of her letters since before she was 2, so it's nice to see her finally using them to read! Now, she's not reading sentences or anything, however, she can look at me typing, or follow along in a book, and she can pick out words she knows, and sometimes she even sounds words out. Tonight, she really knocked my socks off. I was teaching her that when S and H stand beside one another (SH) it makes the sound shhhhhhhhhhhhh... Well, she saw the rest of the word that I was talking about (ORT) and she said, "ORT"--- "SHORT! OH MOMMY IT'S SHORT!" OK, I know that may not be a big deal to some people, but I'm telling you right now, it made me prouder than a peacock to hear my baby learning! She's such a smart girl and a willing learner! I'm forever amazed by her! I know there are other children out there that can already read books by her age, but personally, I think she's doing a marvelous job! She is so excited about starting Kindy in the fall. She said to me recently, "I can not wait to learn science and math!" I am planning to spend the summer teaching her about some social study topics... and since we are about to embark on a very long journey, I plan to take a map with us, and to highlight the areas we traveled through to get to our destination. She is completely enthralled by maps and globes and absolutely loved seeing how far Thailand was from us when Daddy flew there in February. (She has a globe on her dresser.) I'm just happy that she is such an eager learner. I hope I can foster that in every way!

SO, one last note about my boy. Tonight he is sobbing, in his crib. He is heart broken. It's killing me to hear him so sad. Why is he so sad? Wils wants to sleep in the big bed with Maegan. She has a double bed, and he's more than welcome to sleep in it... or he would be IF he'd settle down and go to sleep. However, Maegan doesn't want him in her bed (I understand that), and she has a difficult time falling asleep when he's playing. So, he had to get in his crib. Mr. Perfect and I had the talk tonight. It's time to convert the crib. Gah! My wee little man is growing up! We've decided when we are back from our trek, we will convert his crib into a little toddler bed.

So, there you go... the very long update on my babies!

I enjoy the updates!

Trust me, Maegan's teachers will be glad that you are encouraging her learning now. You will be one of those parents that us teachers really appreciate! :)

Glad to hear everyone is good and growing!

Lots of love,
Karen :)
