Get On Board the Organization Train...

Yep, c'mon and join me! Let's clean and organize our spaces! Let's have homes we enjoy living in. Let's pass on this skill to our children. Let's do it!

OK, so the reason behind this post? I just cleared out 8 years + worth of clutter from my desk in my kitchen! Do you even understand how freeing that was? OK we've been shoving the desk shut for YEARS now. When we moved into this house, we had 3 days to pack up our crap and get out of our old house, it's a long story about the new owner of the house not sticking to the terms of our contract, yadda yadda yadda... So anyway, no time to toss, only time to grab and stash! When we moved in here, we never took the time to toss or go through these things in the desk. So, finally, this morning, I wanted no more part of the clutter in my desk. I wanted to open my desk and be able to use it. I want to sit there and write cards or letters. I want to sit there and sort my mail. I want to open the desk and not have all of the contents come spilling out. I want to close the desk without having to creatively shove everything back in. SO, I spent 4 hours... yes that is correct... 4 hours sorting through it all.

The kids were awesome. They entertained themselves (and Mia napped) so I could sit there and work work work. It paid off... $20.00 in my pocket! The desk looks awesome! There are still things Mr. Perfect must sort through, but the majority of it is done! AND I organized all of the desk drawers and even vacuumed them out. Now I feel like doing every cabinet, every room, every thing!

The desk was a yard sale find, shortly before I was married. I think I paid $10.00 for it. I repainted it and Mr. Perfect and I got new handles of it. Now we have other handles that we put on it, but for some reason Mr. Perfect left one of the odd handles on it... I removed that today and put the matching handle in it's spot. Lovely! I wish I'd taken a before picture, so you could just see how much was shoved up in that piece! Anyway, I love my desk again. I'm so happy I took the time to work on that!

Since we are taking the house off the market for the summer, I'm just planning to get down to brass tacks and go through the entire house, cleaning, organizing and replacing things like rugs, light fixtures, etc. I figure, if we are going to stay awhile, we might as well make it something we enjoy living in! And organization will help with that immensely!

So, get on board, and go clean out something that's been bugging you and see if you don't feel a million times freer after the experience. I DARE YOU!

Congrats on your accomplishment! I too believe that it is so exhilirating when you clean out a space in your home. (That is one good thing about moving! haha).

We have been doing some serious organizing and pitching things out at my MIL's apt while she is in the hospital. She doesn't know we are doing it and I believe she is going to FURIOUS at us when she finds out, but it desperately needed to be done! Hopefully someday she'll thank us.

Keep up the awesome work and I can't wait to see you next weekend!
