I went for my 12 week appointment on June 5th. Weight, down three pounds (5 total), blood pressure 122/70. Everything was perfect. Then we did the doppler. No heartbeat found. Amazingly, I stayed VERY calm. I didn't cry, I didn't freak out. I just said, "Well, there is a lot of scar tissue there." My doctor, also remained very calm. She said, "We will fit you in for an ultrasound ASAP, to ease your mind."
Luckily, Matt was with me. I think this made it easier for me, because with him there, I felt relaxed. We had to wait about 35 mintues. When we went in, the tech said she was going to try an abdomen scan, but if we had to an internal scan, I'd have to go wait in the waiting room again for her to do an already schedculed ultrasound. Again, I remained calm and told her it wasn't a problem.
When she first ran the doppler over my lower abdomen, we didn't see much of anything, and I felt my heart beginning to speed up its pace. Then I saw a big blob... it was my bladder, just slightly above my bladder was this little baby moving like crazy. I'm telling you, the kid must have a hyperactivity disorder already! None of my kids moved as much as this little one was moving. You'd have thought I fed him/her a straight line of caffeine! S/he never settled down enough for us to get a read on the heartbeat, but with all that movement, we know LL Bean is just fine, alive and kicking (really kicking).
I will be 13 weeks tomorrow and now I'm ready to celebrate. My next ultrasound will be at 21 or 22 weeks (around August 5). So, for now, all is well, and we are just looking forward to our trip to the beach!
