I am very excited about something that is happening in my house, and I want to share it! My little boy, who turned 2 on July 14, has hit a major milestone. This mommy can not be more thrilled.
I bought my baby boy the Baby Bjorn saddle potty, in white. It sits directly across from my potty. The little man has decided ON HIS OWN ACCORD, that he wants to use the potty. (Pause for cheers, applause and fanfare) Now, let me go on to say, he is NO WAY ready to be out of his diapers just yet. He's just showing a genuine interest in using the potty.
Every morning, he comes downstairs, takes off his diaper and tells us, "I go potty." He walks himself into the bathroom, sits on his potty and waits until he makes something! He's both tinkled and pooped in the potty! I'm just amazed at how well he has picked it up. Granted he still wakes with completely soaked diapers, and he wets here and there throughout the day. The fact remains, though, he's telling US when he does have to go, and he takes initiative and gets up and goes to the potty and produces!
If we ask him to go, he's more likely to say "NO!" so we use a little motivation. The other night he wanted "beans" (aka: reeses pieces). He wouldn't even sit on the potty, so I told him if he wanted the bean he had to sit on the potty. He sat, ate his bean and got up. I grabbed a few more beans and told him he could have more if he sat down and made peepee. He said "NO" but he still wanted the beans. SO, I said if you don't sit on the potty and make peepee I'm gonna eat the beans. He said "NO" so I ate a bean. You've never in your life seen a kid move so fast to get on the potty! I busted out laughing and said "Well, Matt, now we know his motivation!" Thankfully, he doesn't ask for a bean all of the time, because we don't keep them on hand. My sister had brought them because we were making dinner/desserts for friends who had babies.
So, anyway, I'm very proud of my big bad 2 year old boy! He has 1 year to learn how to use the potty before he begins pre-school. We plan to take it slowly and keep it on his pace. I explained to him today, if he can keep his diaper dry, he can get big boy undies like his cousin Dawson. (HE LOVES TO DO EVERYTHING DAWSON DOES) If we can get him in big boy pants by Christmas, I'll feel ahead of the game. I, selfishly, do NOT want him potty trained prior to our Disney vacation. We go in December, so I'm thinking maybe we'll do pull-ups while in Disney and then move to Big Boy britches at Christmas. (We never did pull-ups with Maegan.) Anyway, I'm ahead of myself. We will just continue following his lead. I'm extremely proud of him!
And then there is the littlest princess and she is making strides of her own. More sleeping through the night AND she's beginning to scoot and attempting moving across the floor to get to what she wants to have. Our house is a bunch of milestone making kids right now. My biggest princess begins Kindy in ONE month!!!
GAH!!! Life is moving fast! I was truly hoping we'd be beginning this school year in new home. That, sadly, has not worked out. We are at a standstill. Thankfully, we have no desperate NEED to sell our home and can hold off for a few more years. I'm just, selfishly, bummed because I was looking forward to waking up mornings in my new home. Getting my girl up for school, helping her get dressed and then spending the early morning hours before school chatting with her, fixing a big breakfast for everyone in my new kitchen, and then after getting her off to school... relaxing in my kitchen with a cup of hot tea, while my younger two played. *sigh* I can still do those things in this house. It just isn't as convenient as it would have been if we'd gotten the home we wanted. The older two share a room, thus, I'll probably have 2 awake in the early hours of the morning when school starts. We are still on separate floors for sleeping. And my kitchen doesn't over look my living room, so I can't relax in my kitchen drinking tea and watching my babies play. It's all selfish desire and I know that God has everything under control, so I'm trying not to be too upset by it all. Everyday that goes by we are in a better financial situation. So, when the day comes that our house is supposed to sell, maybe we will be able to purchase a home that we had NO idea we'd ever be able to own. For now, we just continue paying things off and trying to figure out what to do with our house. Keep it on the market, take it off, refinance and pay off car, refinance and do renovations, do nothing. Decisions Decisions Decisions...
